OC AiP hosted wonderful luncheon and speaker panel on Oct. 29 at Center Club Orange County. Much thanks to First Foundation Inc. for sponsoring the event.
The panel offered continued the AiP’s them of “Philanthropy is Good” by focusing on the importance of engaging families. The panel was facilitated by Dr. Emily Young of The Nonprofit Institute in the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences. Panelists included Douglas Circle, Pamela Cohen, and Eleanor Tang.
Douglas Circle talked about how faith was the primary driver in his family’s involvement in philanthropy after his successful business in the field of agriculture and overseas products. Of equal importance has been Mr. Circle’s involvement with community service, charitable work, and his active participation in church administration.
Eleanor Tang, who serves on the Board of the Kay Family Foundation, shared how her parents sparked her family’s involvement in philanthropy. Today, the Kay Family Foundation, advances such pivotal venues as faith and values, education, training, medical and healthcare, and arts and culture.
Pamela Cohen shared practical and powerful tips on engaging families in philanthropy. For instance, don’t expect setting up a family foundation will solve and existing problematic family dynamics. Pamela has 25 years of experience in the nonprofit, philanthropy, and education sectors, advising individual clients, families, and foundation directors on legacy planning and design and execution of their philanthropic strategy.
